Sandra Becerril is one of the most acclaimed contemporary horror writers in Latin America. The author of fifty published novels—ten of them national bestsellers—her work has been translated into ten languages and adapted into internationally distributed feature films. She has received more than thirty international literary awards, including Spain’s Auguste Dupin Prize for Crime Fiction (2021), Mexico’s Se Busca Escritor Prize (2021), and Cuba’s prestigious MiNatura Award (2005).
An internationally recognized screenwriter, Becerril has written forty-seven produced screenplays for feature films and television, including Masters of Horror, Nightmare Cinema, Santiago Apóstol, Desde tu infierno, and El departamento. Her films have premiered at some of the world's leading genre festivals, including the Fantasia International Film Festival, the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival, and Macabro International Horror Film Festival.
Specializing in horror and psychological thrillers, she also directed Mexico's first found-footage feature film, El Escondite, as well as three additional feature films and six television series for TelevisaUnivision. Her work is distinguished by its blend of psychological terror, folklore, and cinematic storytelling.
Becerril is a member of the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMACC) and Mexico's National System of Creators, and was nominated for the Ariel Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay in both 2015 and 2020. She also received an Honorary Doctorate from the Ibero-American Congress of Education in Peru and serves as Chair of the Latin American Chapter of the Horror Writers Association.
Throughout her career, she has served as a juror for more than eighty international literary and film festivals. She is also the founder of Monstruos, a literary and cinematic initiative that supports emerging writers and filmmakers through collaborations with major cultural festivals in Mexico and abroad. Widely recognized as the first Mexican writer to collaborate professionally with the masters of Hollywood horror, Sandra Becerril has become one of the most influential voices shaping contemporary horror fiction from Latin America.
